Lake Chapala Continues Rising

Recent rains have brought Lake Chapala’s level to 50.26%, according to the Jalisco government’s lake monitoring system. This is slightly below the 51.18% recorded at the same time last year. In 2022, the lake reached 70% capacity, highlighting the significant reduction in rainfall in both 2023 and 2024, and the growing need for water.

The lake’s highest level in 2022 was 70.44%, reached on September 16. If current weather patterns and rainfall continue, Lake Chapala may reach 51% level this year, which is still lower than last year’s peak of 51.84%, and far from its optimal level.
