Robbers Take Almost 300,000 Pesos from Bank Customer in Zapopan

Around 11:45 am yesterday, the municipal police received the 911 report of a “conejero” (rabbit) robbery at the intersection of Abedules and Jesús D. Rojas avenues in the Los Pinos neighborhood.

These cases have been registered in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara before. One of the biggest losses was on July 27 of this year, when the victim said that he was robbed of about 3 million pesos at the intersection of avenue Patria and Tepeyac outside a bank, money that was also used to pay employee salaries.

A similar robbery also occured on July 19 at a bank in Colonia Americana on Vallarta Avenue, when a man inside the bank was robbed of 1.3 million pesos.

Recently, the Secretary of State Security offered a special and free service throughout this year to provide protection of accountholders. The support and follow-up is when they leave the company or business to go to banks, and after they withdraw amounts or checks from the financial institution.

The SSE explained the requirements to have this secure, free, and anonymous service.

  • It is necessary to call 333-668-7942, and request the support of “Secure Account Holder.”
  • Wait at the requested address for the assigned police unit, and tell the officer what your destination will be.
  • It is important to identify yourself to the officers, who should not ask about the amount of money being transferred.
  • The official unit will accompany the applicant to the indicated place where the banking operation will be carried out, whether it is a withdrawal or deposit.
  • Once the service is complete, the patrol will withdraw.
