José Miguel Gómez López was sworn in on September 30th as the first re-elected mayor of Jocotepec.
In his speech, he described as “shameful” that the councilors of Futuro, Hugo David García Vargas “Bombín” and Abel Rodríguez Orozco, as well as José Manuel Haro Chacón from the Green Ecologist Party (PVEM) of Mexico, did not attend the ceremony held at the José Vaca Flores House of Culture. In his opinion, it was part of their responsibility as representatives of the people.
The Futuro Party had challenged the outcome of the June 6th election.
The now former Morena councilors, Julia Valencia and Isela Pérez García, and one from the Citizen Movement (MC) Party, Saúl Oregel Hernández also did not attend the ceremony, so attendance of both the current and outgoing council was incomplete at an event that had few guests.
Gómez, who was accompanied by his wife, DIF Jocotepec Director Dilia Ibarra Espinoza, stated in his speech that he will no longer try to help those who do not want improvement, since the vision that will characterize this new administration (2021-2024) it will be “you decide to improve.”
Adequate drinking water and drainage, the collection of garbage, training of children and young people, an investment of 10 million pesos for the José Santana Elementary School, as well as bringing people closer, will be actions of the new political agenda of the next three years.
Gómez complained about the misinformation that circulated on social networks regarding his management from 2018-2021, since, in his opinion, despite the defamation against him, and the threats, “a great job was done.”
He said he regretted the fiscal pact of the federal government since it caused a reduction to the budget of 20 million pesos. However, despite the collapse of services, not having effective collection policies, the municipality’s historical indebtedness, and the pandemic, which affected the economy, a historic investment was made.
He said that a lot of work has been done on issues, such as the supply of drinking water, garbage collection, and the 18 million pesos that have been invested in education, such as the purchase of supplies, uniforms, and support so that students do not abandon their studies.
Regarding security, despite the approximately 38 police officers that the municipality has between the two shifts, he said there should be 70.
Finally, Gómez described his past management as “good,” and admitted that something he would have liked to change was “a heavy hand.” He said that he did not apply a heavy hand where it was needed, that there was too much tolerance, but that in this next administration, “The objective will justify the consequences we do.”
