In early December, Chapala Tourism Director Juan Macías traveled to Mexico City to promote tourism in the Lake Chapala region and foster collaborations. He met with Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, and Nathalie Desplas, Mexico’s Director of Tourism Planning.
The discussions highlighted Chapala’s appeal as a tourist destination and included plans for a potential visit by Rodríguez Zamora to Jalisco. Macías also spoke with Desplas about strategies to boost tourism in the area, focusing on Chapala’s inclusion in “Punto México,” a federal tourism initiative managed by the Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR).
One key topic was Chapala’s culinary scene, known for its quality and variety. Chapala has been invited to participate in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid in January 2025, where it will be featured in Mexico’s pavilion.
Macías shared that Chef Jorge Orozco, owner of a restaurant in San Antonio Tlayacapan, will prepare cocktails and traditional Mexican dishes to showcase local culinary excellence. These efforts will highlight iconic restaurants and hotels in the region as part of the “Casa México” pavilion at FITUR.
Additionally, Macías extended a personal invitation to Rodríguez Zamora to attend the fifth anniversary of the VID FORUM, a renowned wine fair in Chapala, scheduled for February 8–9, 2025.
