Gama Soto Takes Office as Interim Mayor of Chapala

After the authorization of a leave of absence presented by Chapala Mayor Alejandro de Jesús Aguirre Curiel  to separate from his position for an indefinite period and without pay in order to run his re-election campaign, the Trustee, Gamaliel de Jesús Soto Pérez, has been sworn in as interim mayor.

It was in the ordinary Council session held on March 1, where Aguirre and the councilors elected Soto Pérez as interim, although it was an agreement that was made in advance, and behind closed doors before the start of the session that began late.

Aguirre leave was approved unanimously, and was valid from 11:00 p.m. on March 1, as he will seek re-election as standard bearer of the coalition formed by the PAN, PRI and PRD in the June 2 elections.

Aguirre said, “I want to continue building a series of good governments for our municipality, and that is why, as established by law, I am going to leave office to be able to fulfill this mission that I will do with many inhabitants of Chapala.”

Soto said that he remains firm in his convictions to continue building Chapala and its delegations.

In the same Council session, the leave of absence presented by Lilia Alvarado Macías to separate from her position as Secretary General was approved, starting from March 1 and until June 10, in order to join Aguirre‘s campaign.

Alan Christian López Castillo, who served as Cabinet Coordinator, was appointed in her place.
