Whether you like it or not, you will be losing an hour of sleep as our clocks spring forward! Daylight Saving Time takes effect on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at 2:00am – Easter Sunday.
It is often believed that Founding Father Benjamin Franklin was the inventor of Daylight Saving Time, but this is a common misconception. He never actually proposed changing the clocks. While living in Paris, he instead suggested that the citizens wake up earlier to save money on wax candles and lamp oil that was being overused.
In reality, at the beginning of the 20th century, New Zealand scientist George Vernon Hudson and British builder William Willett were the first two men that actually suggested shifting the time on the clock forward and back.
Germany was the first to implement the plan in 1916, but it wasn’t until March 19th, 1918 that the United States adopted the Standard Time Act.
Currently, over 70 countries around the world observe DST as a way to make better use of daylight, and to conserve energy.
