Volaris Passenger Causes Patrol Car Crash After Attempted Plane Hijacking

A Volaris passenger who allegedly attempted to hijack flight 3041 on Sunday is now facing additional charges after causing a patrol car crash while being transported to custody.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Mario ‘N’, was arrested at Guadalajara International Airport after attempting to take control of a flight traveling from León, Guanajuato, to Tijuana, Baja California. The man allegedly threatened the flight crew and tried to enter the cockpit, but was subdued by passengers and crew members before being handed over to the National Guard.

While being transported in a patrol car, Mario ‘N’ reportedly became violent, striking the vehicle’s doors and guards in an attempt to escape. His actions caused the patrol car to veer off course and crash into a property along Jesús González Gallo Road.

National Guard agents sustained minor injuries but are in stable condition. Mario ‘N’ suffered head injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Once released from the hospital, he will be handed over to the appropriate authorities to face multiple charges, including attempted hijacking, damage to property, and resisting authority.

The incident follows his arrest on Sunday at the Guadalajara International Airport, where he was accused of attempting to divert the Volaris flight to the United States. The flight, originally scheduled to travel from León to Tijuana, was rerouted to Guadalajara following the mid-flight disturbance.
